Low-mount centre fog/brake light. Because Racecar.

I've been way too busy making Star Wars references.

I'm fairly sure it's a foglight.

I like that, but I can't be the only one who thinks the car looks bad. The rear vent is massive, the decklid doesn't flow whatsoever into the tail lights, and I hate the hood dip.

I'll admit, it's not super handsome in the pics seen so far... maybe it'll be like the Panamera and look far better in person than in pictures *crosses fingers*

Because it's weird. The normal Focus has its rear fogs where you would expect, in the main units.

See, exactly, all previous foci have had the rear fog lamps integrated with the main tail-light assembly... I will reluctantly admit that this may be a centre-mount rear fog, but It's much sillier and more fun if Because Racecar ;)

I could be missing something, but I thought the lights on the back of F1 cars essentially were foglights, for when they're racing in poor weather conditions? They're certainly not just on when the cars are braking.
"All cars must have a red light on the rear of the car in a specific location defined by the FIA regulations. The driver must be able to switch this light on at any time. This is usually done in poor weather conditions in order to make the car more visible to following drivers."

ok, fair enough... but they DO change brightness as a 1-peice tail/brake lamp does when the car is under braking...

I feel like a party pooper now...
...
But I'm gonna do it anyway: the Mark I and II Focii, at least, had their fogs in built into the rear bumper, next to the reversing light on the Mark I:

Indeed. This is kind of a daft thing to be arguing about, anyway—it's a delightfully positioned fog or brake light.

This is true, but still not centre mounted.
I stand by "Because Racecar". Even if my reasoning is flawed, I believe my conclusion is irrefutable ;)

You are, of course, completely correct.

Indeed, it is!

That is a fog light. The auxiliary brake light is located higher up.

The Focus used one fog light as the other side had the reverse light. The fog light was located on the driver side with the reverse light on the passenger side.
RHD cars. Fog on right, reverse on left.
LHD cars. Fog on left, reverse on right.

I know—I didn't actually draw those arrows; they came with the picture. I didn't realise that they actually swapped sides for LHD, though.

Ye'. When I did a Google search for the rear of the Focus your pics were in the first ten to come up.
There is a mod though to put a LHD reverse light on the RHD car and substitute the clear bulb for either a red bulb or red LED bulb (such as a Cree Q5 LED bulb). It keeps the rear looking clean and symmetric.
